Let me give you some background on this blog’s name. My mom was a card person. She was very good about sending cards in the mail, whether it be for a birthday, holiday, or just to say Hello. Sometimes we’d have phone conversations in which I’d tell her the latest life event I was overthinking, and I’d get a card in the mail a few days later. These cards would tell me that everything was going to be okay, and might even include pages of loving notes about how I need to stop worrying so much, or that I need to stop trying so hard to please other people and just make myself happy. Oh, the hardships of mothering a daughter you care so deeply for. I’ve gotten a taste and know it’ll only get tougher as Adeline gets older. Anyway, I’ll get back to the point. At the end of her note in a card, she’d tell me I was her joy forever: “You are my joy forever,” and then sign it. With my brother, she’d say to him “You are my greatest joy,” displaying this equal love for both her children.
When my mom passed away in 2010, I soon realized I was grateful to have kept so many of these cards. I’ve got them all in a shoebox at the end of our bed and look at them every now and then. She left notes for me to find, too, as seen in the photo below – I’m so lucky to have kept some of these. Simply put, I want to be her joy forever. I’d like to think she watches over, and that she sees me smiling and bringing that joy to my own daughter now.
Why? I’ve always loved the idea of having a blog – of having a place to share experiences with friends and family through my two biggest passions, writing and photography. Also, I’ve made the decision to be home full time with my baby girl for now (more on that later) and think it’s so important to keep the creative juices flowing. I’m a pretty good writer and find it truly enjoyable. What will I touch on? I’m thinking it’ll be a mix of:
Family – My wonderful husband Steve, who might know me better than I know myself? Our darling daughter Adeline, who has brought a ridiculous amount of love and joy to our lives. We are just crazy for this girl. (Trust.me. I could go on, but I won’t be that parent…for now). Our bulldog Reagan, who is just the absolute sweetest butterball of love, and very protective of our little family.
Food – Because really, food is all that matters. I love baking (give me all the chocolate!), trying out new restaurants around Dallas, all that goodness. For a while, meaning two weeks, I was making one new dinner recipe a week. So if you do the complex math, I made two new recipes. There are about a billion available to you on the Internet, so I’d likely only write about ones that BLOW me away.
Travel – It’s without a doubt our “thing” in life. Steve and I have been to many states in the U.S. together, as well as destinations overseas. Now that we have a BABY, our travels will no doubt be more interesting, to say the least! We cannot wait to show Adeline new places and take in new experiences with her (Hello, Hawaii 2016!).
